I recently submitted my first self-assessment tax return for Stu Barnes Coaching. I know… nice and early ahead of the January deadline, but that’s the chartered accountant in me!

This was a defining moment for me.

But what is a ‘moment’ anyway and why was a boring, admin task like submitting a tax return significant to me?

Definitions range from a medieval portion of time, to the turning effect of a force in physics, to more popular meanings – a brief period of time, and something of importance.

It certainly was a fleeting period of time – a simple return completed within 15 minutes and whoosh… submitted with a click of the button.

But that small act was something of gravity for me and my journey to professional coaching – a step between qualifying as an executive and personal coach last year and achieving my first 100 hours of practice (hopefully by early next year).

So, I paused, took a breath and acknowledged what I’d achieved, gave myself a mental high five, then looked ahead.

Appreciating and savouring moments in life is what I discuss with my clients and I’ve been working on practicing what I preach… this time, I did it!

What moments have you celebrated on the way to achieving your goals?
