Executive Coach | Empowering growth and transformation in Mid-Career Professionals through Career, Leadership and Personal Development

BOUNDARIES AREN’T ALWAYS A TIME MANAGEMENT PROBLEM BOUNDARIES AREN’T ALWAYS A TIME MANAGEMENT PROBLEM

Often, they’re an identity problem.

Many of the mid-career professionals I work with know exactly what their boundaries should be.

They know they need more thinking time.

They know they should stop checking emails late at night.

They know they need to protect time for family, exercise, rest, or simply switching off.

The challenge is rarely knowing.

The challenge is doing.

Because boundaries can feel uncomfortable.

Every boundary risks disappointing someone.

Every “no” closes a door.

Every decision to protect your time means choosing not to meet someone else’s expectation.

Yet without boundaries, something else happens.

Your diary fills up.

Your energy drains away.

Your attention becomes fragmented.

And gradually, the things that matter most get squeezed into whatever space remains.

I’ve come to see boundaries less as walls and more as acts of stewardship.

A way of protecting your most valuable resources: your time, energy, attention, and presence.

Here, I’ve shared a simple four-step process that I often use with coaching clients:

✅ Identify
✅ Define
✅ Communicate
✅ Reflect

Simple in principle. Not always easy in practice.

Where in life do you most need to give yourself permission to honour a boundary you already know you need?

STILLNESS CREATES MOMENTUM I recently came across STILLNESS CREATES MOMENTUM

I recently came across the word ‘Chishuru’.

It’s the name of a West African restaurant here in London — now firmly at the top of my “must visit” list.

But it wasn’t just the food that caught my attention.

It was the meaning behind the name.

Chishuru loosely translates to quiet… stillness… depth.

And it stayed with me.

Because it captures something I see every week in coaching.

Most mid-career professionals I work with aren’t short of capability.

They’re busy. Responsible. Proven. But they’re also:

⚡ Moving fast
⚡ Carrying a lot
⚡ Thinking on the go

And somewhere along the way…Clarity gets lost in the noise.

So what do they do?

They push harder. Move faster. Try to think their way through it in motion.

It makes sense. But it rarely works.

Coaching offers something different.

Not more noise. Not more advice.

But stillness. A space to pause. To breathe. To hear your own thinking again.

And here’s the paradox…

It’s often in that quiet moment that everything shifts:

🧭 What actually matters becomes clearer
🧭 The “shoulds” start to fall away
🧭 The next step feels simpler — and more certain

I see it time and time again.

When people slow down just enough…They move forward with far more intent.

In a world that rewards speed…stillness might be the most underrated leadership skill we have.

When was the last time you gave yourself space to think — without distraction?

MY VERY OWN OFFICE COMPANIONS One of the underrat MY VERY OWN OFFICE COMPANIONS

One of the underrated joys of working from home?

The co-workers 🐾

🐈‍⬛ Rico — my charming, ageing cat — bringing calm, wisdom, and the occasional meow for food…and perhaps a cuddle

🐕 Alba — my loyal, loving pup — convinced every video call is improved by her presence…and she’s so right

Both quietly siddling up beside me yesterday whilst I did a quick admin task on the sofa between calls.

In a profession centred around listening, reflection, and human connection, there’s something grounding about the simple companionship of animals.

No agendas.
No performance.
No status.
Just presence.

And honestly, that’s exactly the energy needed.

Wouldn’t swap this particular office setup for much.

KAYAKING THE THAMES TOGETHER On the early May Ban KAYAKING THE THAMES TOGETHER

On the early May Bank Holiday weekend, I swapped screens for the slow rhythm of the River Thames at Richmond.

Kayaking on our SUP board with Alba.

No rush. No noise.

Just the easy flow of the river… and good company.

There’s something about being on the water that quietly resets you.

Perspective widens. Thoughts settle.

You notice what’s already there:

✨ The steadiness of the current
✨ The simplicity of being present
✨ The gratitude for a shared moment

It reminded me how easy it is to get caught up in pace, pressure, and “what’s next”.

And how powerful it can be to step out of it, even briefly.

Not to escape life — but to reconnect with it.

I came back feeling lighter, clearer, and grateful.

Where do you go to find your version of this?

FS – THE COMPASS POINTS FOR MIDLIFE Chip Conley ( FS – THE COMPASS POINTS FOR MIDLIFE

Chip Conley (founder of the Modern Elder Academy) has a simple yet profound idea:

✨ Defining success in midlife is about 3 Fs – Faith, Family, and Friends.

Often in our 40s and 50s the outward markers of success (title, salary, status) start to feel less satisfying and connection, meaning and service often become more central than accolades or wealth.

Deeper questions start to rise to the surface:

🍃 Am I living in a way that feels aligned with who I really am?
🍃 Where does my energy come from – and where does it drain away?
🍃 Who and what really matters to me now?

This is where the 3 Fs can become our compass points:

🧭 Faith isn’t necessarily religious (though it can be); it’s about a belief in something greater than ourselves – purpose, community, and legacy

🧭 Midlife often brings a reorientation toward family as a deep source of fulfilment and legacy – whether that’s parenting, caring for aging parents, or deepening bonds with chosen family

🧭 Friendships, particularly those that are authentic and supportive, become increasingly important for emotional wellbeing, belonging, and resilience

COACHING & MIDLIFE

Midlife can be a beautifully profound period of chrysalis – a transitionary phase where we shed our identities, let go of endless striving, and emerge with deeper purpose and meaning.

But it’s common to feel stuck, isolated, or overwhelmed.

Having a professional thinking partner – someone outside of your immediate network, with no agenda except your growth – can be a game-changer to:

✅ Build self-awareness about what really drives and fulfils them now
✅ Reconnect with their own definition of success personally and professionally
✅ Cultivate resilience, perspective, and energy to lead and live well
✅ Make career decisions aligned with their values, strengths, and ambitions
✅ Navigate transitions with clarity, courage, and confidence

If you’re at a crossroads, it’s not a crisis – it’s an invitation to realign with what matters most: Faith, Family, and Friends.

How has your measurement of success changed over your career?

YOU DON’T HAVE TO NAVIGATE THIS ALONE Welcome to YOU DON’T HAVE TO NAVIGATE THIS ALONE

Welcome to day seven of International Coaching Week.

Today, we summarise and wrap up the week.

This week we’ve explored:

👉 What coaching really is (and isn’t)
👉 The hidden pressure points of mid-career
👉 A client story
👉 The beliefs that quietly shape our decisions
👉 A practical reflection tool you can use immediately

The three complimentary ICW conversations are now allocated. Thank you for the trust.

If something stirred this week — even slightly — it may be worth not ignoring it.

🌀 Remember: Mid-career isn’t a crisis. It’s a recalibration point

And you don’t have to navigate recalibration alone. If you’d like to explore what that might look like, my diary remains open.

Well, that’s pretty much a wrap on International Coaching Week!

To finish up: a final reflection, a thank you, and a question…

🌿 This week may be coming to an end, but your personal and professional growth is ongoing. Use these prompts, tools, and reflective questions as a foundation to keep growing, intentionally and purposefully.

💛 Thank you for your engagement and feedback this week — I’m truly grateful, and I hope it’s given you greater clarity in your career choices and direction.

❓ What’s the first small step that could move you forward?

CAREER ALIGNMENT TOOL Welcome to day six of Inter CAREER ALIGNMENT TOOL

Welcome to day six of International Coaching Week.

Today, I will share a simple tool that you can use to help with career alignment.

Try this…

Score each area 1–10:

⚡ Energy
🎯 Impact
🍃 Meaning

Now ask:

🤔 Where is the gap largest?

Mid-career dissatisfaction often isn’t about workload.

It’s misalignment between those three.

🟰 Energy high + Meaning low → burnout risk
🟰 Impact high + Energy low → sustainability issue
🟰 Meaning high + Impact low → frustration

You might want to save this and revisit it in three months.

The numbers shift when awareness grows.

Tomorrow, we wrap up International Coaching Week.

WHY I COACH Welcome to day five of International WHY I COACH

Welcome to day five of International Coaching Week.

Today, I will explain why I coach.

👨‍💼 I spent 25 years in a corporate role.

I know the weight.
The invisible pressure.
The identity wrapped around performance.

And I know what happens when success and alignment quietly drift apart.

🌿 Coaching, for me, isn’t performance optimisation.

It’s legacy work.
It’s helping thoughtful, capable mid-career professionals redefine success on their own terms. Not louder. Clearer.

If you’ve followed this week quietly, recognising parts of yourself – that quiet recognition usually matters.

Tomorrow I will share a tool that you can use to help with career alignment.

THE BELIEFS WE CARRY Welcome to day four of Inter THE BELIEFS WE CARRY

Welcome to day four of International Coaching Week.

Today, we explore the beliefs we carry.

The most expensive career decisions are made from invisible beliefs:

💭 “I should be grateful.”
💭 “It’s too late to pivot.”
💭 “Leaders don’t struggle.”
💭 “If I slow down, I’ll fall behind.”

Beliefs feel like facts.

Until someone gently asks:  “Is that actually true?”

Coaching doesn’t attack beliefs. It explores them:

❓ Where did this come from?
❓ Who did it once protect?
❓ Does it still serve you?

The second complementary 60-minute ICW conversation has now gone.

🎁 I’m opening the final 60-minute clarity conversation today.

If you’re sensing that an old belief may be shaping a new decision, drop me a line.

And if you’re not ready for conversation, you might want to reflect quietly on this question:

What belief have you outgrown?

Tomorrow I will explain why I coach.
