As a professional coach, I support my clients as they journey through the complex landscapes of change.
This can be professional change, such as a new role, career change, stepping into leadership or a redundancy – or personal change, such as moving location, taking on caring responsibilities for parents, or a change in family relationships. Sometimes it can be both.
A book that continues to resonate with me is Spencer Johnson’s “Who Moved My Cheese?”. It’s a simple yet enlightening fable about our relationship with change, reminding us that the key to achieving success sits in our ability to embrace and leverage change, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.
Here are three lessons that I’ve taken from the book and applied to my coaching:
🧀 ANTICIPATE CHANGE: Change is constant and a thread that runs through all our lives – rather than refusing this, we can learn to foresee and prepare for change
➡️ I encourage clients to adopt a proactive mindset, identifying potential changes in their professional and personal lives, and exploring what strategies they want to take forward in response
🧀 ADAPT QUICKLY: The ability to stay flexible and adapt to new circumstances is a skill that can be developed and harnessed
➡️ I help clients develop agility in their thinking and decision-making and navigate change with a positive attitude and resilience
🧀 ENJOY CHANGE: Our default is often to meet change with resistance, but viewing it as an opportunity rather than a threat can be liberating and transformative
➡️ I work with clients to reframe their perspectives, challenging limiting beliefs and exploring change as a pathway to growth and fulfillment
Change can be challenging and feel overwhelming. I can help you not just cope with change but thrive in it, supporting you to gain clarity and perspective on what is most important to you and how you make that a reality in the future.
